    August 2017 MTPPA Business Meeting

    Welcome to August!!!

Who out there is is having a busy, hot, crazy, fun summer? Hopefully it's filled with great photography and quality time with the people that matter to you. I can't believe as I'm writing this that my term as president is ending this month, and I hand over the reins to our VP, Anthony Werch. This year has really flown by, and I've learned a lot from our board, past presidents, and members. We would not be where we are today without their support. I look forward to Anthony running this ship and taking us to the next level.

The August meeting is our yearly business meeting. I hope everybody makes attending the August 8th meeting a priority. We will have at least one open position we will need to vote on, which is for Vice President. I encourage the rest of our membership to consider serving on the board. It takes a dedicated team to keep this organization running, and we literally cannot do it without you.

We did miss a couple deadlines, so we are going to announce the Photographer of the Year, and the Earl Austin Award in September. The theme for print of the month is "Negative Space." It's a compositional element that we all should use in are work, so I expect a lot of great entries! We will also use those points to put toward the POTY grand total.

After the business meeting, Anthony is going to lead the group in discussing marketing strategies, and share best practices.

I hope to see you all very soon!

    Rich Wyllis, MTPPA President

    Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 7pm - 9pm

Christie Newell of www.sonshineportraitdesign.com is our speaker for our Fall Artistry Retreat.  This is part of our commitment to bringing quality speakers and in-person education to photographers all over Michigan.

    Program Description.

If your working towards a degree this program will get you ahead of the game. If you have your Masters,  some reach this point and think they don't need to enter print competition anymore or they have developed a major creative block. Christie is going to help you get out of that rut and go through her creative process to go above and beyond with your competition prints. This will be hands on shooting and post processing

    Here is her bio.

Christie is a second generation photographer operating out of Germantown Hills, Ill. Christie's passion for photography started at an early age working with her mother who established the studio in 1977. Now a co-owner with her mother, Christie took over the shooting in 2002. Growing up surrounded by the love of photography, Christie is proud to carry on her mother's dream.

The studio, “Sonshine Portrait Design”, is located in a one of a kind studio built in 2006. While babies and children are the studio's specialty, they serve a broad range of clients. Christie feels that by getting to know each client individually, she can create a product as unique as they are. The end result is a portrait tailor made for each client. Christie's talent for design, light and final composition sets her apart from her competition. Her personality and attention to detail keeps her clients coming back.

Christie, holds the Professional of Photographers of America, “Master of Photography” degree, "Craftsmen" degree and is a Certified Professional Photographer. She is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Northern Illinois Professional Photographers and Professional Photographers of Illinois. She serves on the American Society of Photographers Board of Directors and The International Photographic Competition Committee. Since 2006, Christie has won numerous awards for her photography on a local, state, district and international level. These awards include the prestigious Fuji Masterpiece Award, 5 Kodak Gallery awards, 2 Lexjet, 1st place National Sunset Award, 2 CPP, 2 District 1st Place and others. Her work has been featured and published in the PPA International Loan Collection. She has also been named in the top ten photographers for Illinois the past six years. Named top photographer in Illinois and North Central District over the past couple years.

Christie is now speaking and sharing her success with other photographers across the United States. Giving back to the profession that has given her so much.
